BJP hails judiciary for ‘non-cooperation’

Party also claimed that there was nothing left to investigate snoopgate case

New Delhi: With the Centre deciding to drop its move to name a judge to head the commission set up to probe ‘snoopgate’ the BJP on Monday paid “great tribute to the Indian judiciary for none of the judges in India was willing to cooperate with this mala fide political exercise (commission).”

The party also claimed that there was nothing left to investigate in the matter as the state government has already set up a commission of inquiry. The BJP also attacked the Congress-led UPA for leaving the economy in the “worst crisis” and said it was committed to a simplified tax regime and, if voted to power, will try to hasten implementation of a DTC and GST after a consensus is built among states.

In his reaction on the “snoopgate” issue, Arun Jaitley said, “The setting up of a parallel commission by the Centre was a mala fide exercise and I would pay a great tribute to Indian judiciary for none of the judges in India was willing to cooperate with this mala fide political exercise. The lady in question has already made a statement. She has also sent a statement to the NWC. I doubt that anything else is left for the Central government to do in the matter.”

Significantly, Mr Pawar had spoken to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday to convey the party’s view in the matter. The NCP is the second largest constituent of the Congress-led UPA.
