Narendra Modi offers rasgullas to Bengal

Mr Modi promised that he would not work with the intention of revenge

Kolkata: Three months after offering “laddoos in both hands,” BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Sunday tried to sell “rasgullas in both hands” idea to the people of Bengal.

“Do you want double benefits? I have a formula for double benefits. Bring Modi to power in Delhi and I promise that I will look after the interests of Bengal in Delhi and Didi will do so from Kolkata. Let there be competition between Didi and me,” he said while addressing an election rally in Bankura.

Mr Modi said that if a strong government was elected, then Ms Banerjee would be forced to provide good governance in the state. “Didi will be forced to stop her natakbazi and start governing seriously,” he said.

In his 30 minute speech, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate flayed Ms Banerjee for Saradha chit fund scam, rise in crimes against women and vote bank politics. “It was a classic blow-hot blow-cold speech,” a political observer said.

Mr Modi promised that he would not work with the intention of revenge but only for change.

Echoing Ms Banerjee’s famous “badla noi badal chaiyee, (Not revenge but change)” slogan Mr Modi said he would practice “badla nahin badlao ki rajneeti.”

“Let Didi attack, abuse, and malign me, but I will work for the people of Bengal,” he added.

Political observers pointed out that Mr Modi’s “rasgullas in both hands” formula suggested that he was keeping the door for a post-poll alliance with the Trinamul ajar.

Ms Banerjee however intensified her attacks against him buy branding the Gujarat Chief Minister as “shaitan” and “butcher of Gujarat.”
