New Delhi: The ongoing controversy over Doordarshan’s telecasting of a ‘censored’ version of BJP’s prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi may soon take an ugly turn as officials from the national broadcaster may be shunted out or transferred for what is being termed as unprofessional behaviour.
The step comes after the almost one hour interview was chopped off by 27 minutes to fit it into a fixed time slot. It is learnt that the step may be taken despite the interview being cleared at the highest level in the national broadcaster. Sources stated that an inquiry is also likely to be ordered soon.
However, with the electoral process on its final leg, it is believed that the Prasar Bharati may defer the result of this inquiry as the nation awaits a possible change at the helm. Ever since the telecast of the shortened version of the interview, the war between Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar and information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari seems to have escalated.
Mr Sircar had shot off a letter to Board members complaining about government interference in Doordarshan’s functioning and also pointed a finger at an unnamed “young minister.”
