Row over hiring of junior doctors at MNJ hospital

Doctors protest against hiring while 'code of conduct' is in place

HYDERABAD: MNJ Telangana Doctors’ Association and Government Doctors’ Association raised a hue and cry over appointment of officers in MNJ while the election code of conduct was in place.

Over 30 candidates for various posts were called to the office of the director of MNJ. Dr Sai Ram, vice-president of MNJ Telangana Doctors’ Association said, “There can be no recruitments or discussions about recruitments while the code of conduct is in place. There can be no appointments now.”

Over 10 doctors protested outside the cabin of the director, Dr T. Kannan, and gave a representation asking him to stop the process immediately.

A senior official of the administration department explained, “The director called the candidates to check their certificates. It is merely a part of the process and there is nothing wrong.”

However, senior doctors state that the director is due for retirement in May 2014 and there is no need for any verification.
A senior doctor explained, “When the actual process starts, the present director will not be there. Why are these steps being taken up now?”
