Forensic study to compare Bradman with Sachin is 'not proper': researcher

Indian author claimed that Tendulkar was greater than Bradman

Mumbai: John Mangan, a Professor of Economics and Associate Dean (Research) within the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Queensland in Australia begs to differ with the Indian author (Rudolph Lambert Fernandez), who recently came out with a book, claiming with "forensic evidence" that Sachin was greater than Bradman.

Speaking exclusively from Australia, he says, "the “Forensic” approach generally means “ scientific tests or techniques used in connection with the detection of crime. I’m not sure that talking to relatives constitutes a forensic study".

"Comparing great champions from different eras is difficult , however there are some things about Bradman that stand out and here are the reasons why."

1. Bradman 99 + average is exceptional.

2. He was playing against established Tests nations- no easy runs against Zimbabwe or Bangladesh.

3. Bradman missed his peak years because of the war – a long period out of the game but his performances post-war were nearly as good as pre-war.

4. Bradman scored similarly in both first and second innings- Tendulkar has a clear first innings bias.

5. On the other hand Tendulkar played many more innings and so his average is based on more observations and is statistical more “true”.

The same researcher did similar comparison of greats some 18 months ago as well.
