Janata Dal United to support Arvind Kejriwal in Varanasi

JDU wants non-Congress parties to fight corruption together

New Delhi: The rivalry between BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is expected to increase further as JD (U) has jumped into the keenly-watched electoral battle in Varanasi to back Aam Admi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal.

While JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav, who had vowed to campaign across the country against Mr Modi, will campaign in Varanasi, Mr Kumar would also go there to canvas for Mr Kejriwal.

Incidentally, the JD(U) and AAP are political rivals in Bihar in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. JD (U) MLA Praveen Amanullah, who was Cabinet minister in Bihar, had quit the party and is in the electoral fray from Patna Sahib LS seat.

Also, JD (U)’s suspended leader, Shivanand Tiwari has been the lead campaigner of AAP in the ongoing polls. “JD(U) is opposed to both Congress and BJP. Hence, we will support Mr Kejriwal in Varanasi,” said JD(U) spokesman Rajeev Ranjan Prasad.
