Priyanka can slam me 10 times, I can't be angry with her: Narendra Modi

Mumbai: BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's office has released original footage of his interview with Doordarshan, refuting claims that Modi likened Priyanka Gandhi to a daughter.

The clip shows Modi saying: "Any daughter will do anything for her brother and mother's victory… If she doesn't do it for them, who will she do it for? She can say anything against me. I can never be angry with her. She is doing it for her mother and brother. She can slam me 10 more times. I can't be angry with her… because a daughter is a daughter."

Priyanka Gandhi had retorted sharply to the 'daughter' reports yesterday. "I am Rajiv Gandhi's daughter. He was martyred for the country. No one can replace him." She made it very clear that she didn't "appreciate" this comparison with her father.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram had said, "I am happy Modi considers Priyanka Gandhi as his daughter; not sure if she will be happy to consider Modi as a father figure."

'The Times of India' had claimed that DD edited out the portion where Modi described Priyanka ‘like his daughter’ and also broadcasted it in a low-profile manner without any pre-telecast promotion. Chidambaram denied any government role in the 'editing' controversy, saying, "Doordarshan is free to take what it wants."
