Don’t allow it to become Scamandhra, says Narendra Modi
Tirupati: There was no stress on state bifurcation and little mention of YSR Congress leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi and TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu held the first of their joint rallies in Seemandhra on Wednesday. There were no references to “orphans” as in his meeting at Hyderabad.
The attack on the YSRC was left to Jana Sena chief and actor Pawan Kalyan at the rally at the Tarakarama stadium in Tirupati.
Beginning his speech on a devotional note in the “heartland of Hindu spiritual worship of Lord Venkateswara,” Mr Modi gave the people two choices. They could either turn Seemandhra into a progressive state or into Scamandhra.
He said that when Gujarat was split from Maharashtra, it faced a similar challenge, but with the commitment of the people, Gujarat had grown into the number one state.
“Telugus are more determined than Gujaratis and will not take long to rebuild Seemandhra into a leading state,” Mr Modi said, to broad smiles and applause from Mr Naidu. “But for this to happen you need the right leadership not just at the Centre but in the state as well.”
