Burnt cash found in Telangana Congress MLA Uttam Reddy's car
Hyderabad: Bundles of burnt cash were found in an abandoned Innova car bearing the MLA sticker of Telangana Congress working president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy. The car was registered to Photon Energy Systems, a company which is run by the legislator’s family.
The bundles of burnt Rs 500 and Rs 100 notes were found stashed under the bonnet of the car. While the Election Commission said that the total amount of cash could be Rs 2.5 crore, the police said there was no confirmation of the same.
The car was found abandoned on the highway near Suryapet with fire and smoke emanating from the engine.
Mr Uttam Reddy is contesting from the Huzurunagar Assembly seat and his wife Padmavati from Kodad. The firm Photon Energy Systems is owned by his family.
Currency worth Rs 1.5l was burnt in the car, say cops
Nalgonda SP T. Prabhakar said that the car, in which bundles of burnt cash were found on Wednesday, was noticed by a flying squad. “We found currency notes worth Rs 1.5 lakh burnt in the car. Eyewitnesses said two men left the car hurriedly with a bag carrying cash. We don’t know how much cash was present in the bag.”
He said that the car had an ‘MLA sticker’ of Telangana Congress working president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and was registered in the name of Photon Energy Systems. One Nallamada Gautam Kumar is the CEO of the company. “We are going to examine Mr Kumar to find out how the cash was in the car. It is believed that the cash was meant for distribution among voters,” Mr Prabhakar said.
