Robin Uthappa’s mother accuses husband of torture
Mysore: Noted cricketer Robin Uthappa’s mother has lodged a complaint against her husband Venu Uthappa accusing him of torture and criminal intimidation in Suntikoppa police station of Somwarpet in Kodagu. The complaint was registered on April 20.
In her complaint Ms Uthappa alleged that her husband has been torturing her mentally for several years. On April 19, Mr Uthappa reportedly threatened Ms Uthappa at their residence in Suntikoppa.
Suntikoppa sub-inspector Suresh Kumar told Deccan Chronicle that Ms Uthappa and Mr Uthappa’s relationship worsened after she objected to Mr Uthappa arranging the marriage of her nephew Kaelin Vargeese to a young woman from Kodagu, and egged on by Venu, Varghese physically assaulted her.
Ms Uthappa accused her husband of not respecting her sentiments and individuality. On April 19, Kaelin Vargeese and his wife Manjushree visited Uthappas’ residence in Suntikoppa. The couple had a heated argument as Ms Uthappa wanted Kaelin and his wife to leave her home. In the melee, Kaelin reportedly hit Roselyn and was supported by Mr Uthappa, who also reportedly threatened her.
Mr Suresh Kumar said an FIR has been filed against Mr Uthappa, Kaelin and Manjushree under sections 498A (subjecting to cruelty), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), 323 (voluntarily causes hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint) and 34 (joint liability in doing the criminal act with common intention) of Indian Penal Code.
