It’s time to chill

With election campaigns almost over, many leaders are planning well-earned holidays

After campaigning for over a month, spending most of their time in the merciless heat, meeting hundreds of supporters every day, our politicians definitely deserve a holiday. YSR chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy recently got permission from the CBI court to go on a five-day break from May 10 with his family to Dehradun in Uttarakhand, to relax after the hectic election campaigns. We talk to a few other leaders about their plans to unwind.

Mum might go up north or abroad: D.K. Aruna & family

Shruti Reddy had been campaigning with her mother D.K. Aruna and is looking forward to a vacation. She says, “We haven’t finalised on a place yet. It (campaigning) has been tiring as some of the places were 5ºC hotter than Hyderabad. I have tanned 10 shades darker and my mother is barely recognisable. The counting is on May 16, so we might go on a short trip. My mother might either go up North or abroad where it’s cooler. And, I want to go by myself. I even told my husband that I don’t want him to come along.”

Recovering from surgery: K T Rama Rao

I just need to rest as I’ve not yet fully recovered from a recent surgery. I’m planning to go somewhere but I have not yet decided on the place.

Husband has a surprise plan: K Kavitha

Although K. Kavitha of TRS will be busy for a couple of more days with other regions, the evidently exhausted leader has a sweet surprise awaiting her. “Oh, I am looking forward to the break, when I can relax and breathe easy. And after finishing rest of the work, I am most definitely going on a vacation abroad. My husband has planned something and he doesn’t want to reveal the plans. It’s a surprise!” The mother of two also admits that she needs to “spend some quality time with the children.”

A pilgrimage and then the us: P Karthik Reddy

Immediately after the polls, in the evening, I will leave for Tuljapur where my favourite Bhavani temple is situated. Meanwhile, I plan to spend time with my wife Sravanthi, my daughter Akshaine (who is one-and-a-half years old) and our new-born son. Then I will definitely leave for the US for a week with my friends. I can’t take my wife along as she has to be with the baby. I will be back for the results by May 16,” says the Congress candidate from the Chevella constituency.

A short Chennai sojourn: Karthik Reddy

Son of Anam Vivekananda Reddy, the brother of minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, has been campaigning in Nellore for the past one-and-a-half months. Though the voting in Hyderabad is over, in Nellore it will be on May 7. “That hardly gives me a week to go on a break. The closest getaway would be Chennai for maybe three days, since I have to be back on 12th. But after 16th, we won’t be having any elections for the next five years and that gives me enough time to go on as many vacations as possible.”

Need to think about it: J Geeta Reddy

Senior politician J. Geeta Reddy, meanwhile, says a plan to unwind has not crossed her mind yet. “I have really not thought of taking off on a vacation yet. I am too immersed in my election duties right now,” says Geeta Reddy.
