Third Front idea riddled with inherent contradictions: Prakash Javadekar

Asked about Seemandhra and AP, Javedkar said BJP is confident of winning both the states

Hyderabad: Claiming that NDA would get a clear majority in the Lok Sabha elections, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar has said Third Front exists only in media reports and that the idea is riddled with inherent contradictions.

"This third party idea is an idea of a defeatist mind. Once they (Congress) know that they are not winning, now their leaders are suggesting that they will support (a Third Front).

"But let me tell you, the way they supported and withdrew support during earlier regimes of so-called Third Front governments, that is Charan Singh, Chandrasekhar, Deve Gowda, I K Gujral, Congress' credibility as ruling party is already over. But Congress' reputation as a supporting party has also gone to dogs. Therefore, nobody believes in any Congress support," Javadekar told PTI here.

He was replying to a query on the possibility of a Third Front emerging after the general elections, as suggested by some Congress leaders.

The leaders of so-called Third Front cannot see eye to eye in their respective states, he alleged. "There are so many inner contradictions. So-called Third Front is not only non-NDA (but also) non-UPA. How they will deal with it. TMC and CPI (M) cannot be on board, SP and BSP cannot be on one platform, DMK and AIADMK cannot be together, Lalu and Nitish cannot walk together. There are inner contradictions. This talk about third party is only in the newspapers, nothing more than that," the BJP leader said.

NDA would get a clear mandate in the elections, which leaves no scope for emergence of a Third Front, the Rajya Sabha MP claimed.

Asked about Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's comments that BJP was making personal attacks on her family, Javadekar said his party only raised issues of corruption.

"BJP has never launched a personal attack. We don't believe in personalised attack. We raise only issues of inflation, corruption and governance. As an issue of corruption this was mentioned," he said.

The BJP spokesman said the TDP-BJP alliance would win both in Telangana and Seemandhra on the back of a "national mood" in favour of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and the development agenda of the party.

"We are confident of winning both the states. Because there is a national mood in which this election is happening. Till Telangana was to be created, there was a different kind of tension. But as Telangana now stands created, the reason for voting is development. Who can ensure faster development?

"So, people want to be in sync with central government. Central government is that of NDA led by Narendra Modi. To that end, we are offering special package to Telangana. We have already told about our special package and many other things to Seemandhra," he said.

BJP, though a minor force in undivided Andhra Pradesh, would become a big player in both the states post bifurcation, he hoped.
