Trinamool Congress wants apology from Narendra Modi
New Delhi/Kolkata: A day after the Trinamool had targeted BJP’s PM candidate Narendra Modi as the “butcher of Gujarat”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday unleashed a torrent of vitriol against Mr Modi, saying the country will be “ruined” and would “plunge into darkness” if he comes to power.
The Trinamool had earlier demanded a public apology from the Gujarat CM over his “audacity” in trying to ridicule Ms Banerjee’s artistic skills, taking a dig at her “creativity” and even questioning her integrity over the sale of her “much in demand” paintings.
“Either he has to prove his charges on the sale of the paintings or apologise publicly for this. Otherwise we will file a defamation case”, party general secretary Mukul Roy threatened.
The EC has sought the CD and transcript of Mr Modi’s speech in which he raised questions about the sale of a painting of Ms Banerjee.
But while Trinamool leaders ranted over “insensitive politicians failing to understand Didi’s talent”, they appeared worried over the impact the “Modi wave” was making in West Bengal.
The BJP is creating a sort of wave in the state, though it is not expected to help it win any significant number berths. But the BJP appears to have an edge in 4 to 5 seats, while it could damage Trinamool in at least 19 Lok Sabha berths.
