Poll & lovely
Before and after images reveal the toll electioneering has taken on our politicians
The poll campaign in one of the hottest states in the country has claimed the looks of several party heads. YSRC’s Jagan Mohan Reddy, in his different avatars, looks almost unrecognisable and then there are the two carefully coiffed movie stars Balakrishna and Pawan Kalyan who are a far cry from their on screen avatars. “We are often unable to get back to Hyderabad in the evenings. During the day, it’s just a tree and towel to sheild us from the heat. But we have to reach the people,” says a source from the YSRC campaign trail.
A majority of the leaders have spent weeks in the far off regions of the state walking down the streets of various districts conducting dozens of meetings in a single day.
Telangana Rashtra Samiti supremo K. Chandrasekhar Rao had to abandon his ambitious 10 places at once 3D plan and has been since making personal appearances in over a dozen Assembly constituencies. But with growing crowds, came a receding hairline.
Chiranjeevi meanwhile, looks downright hassled. Outside the luxuries of an office, the elements certainly have been unkind to the former movie star. Jagan Mohan Reddy too is every shade of summer with that shocking ‘election tan’. According to reports, the YSR Congress leader has been on a whirlwind tour of the state packing in over 50 road shows.
Telugu Desam’s Chandrababu Naidu, who had been banking on the 3D projection tech, has been on the road for over two weeks now. But Naidu is used to the long ‘road trips’ with several padayatras under his belt. This year though, with KCR giving chase, the stress is clearly showing on the veteran’s face. Hopefully, the two weeks of rest until May 16, should be able rejuvenate our netas.
