Tamil Nadu minister hands over Rs. 10 Lakh cheque to martyr Major Mukund’s family

Compensation was announced by Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa

Chennai: Tamil Nadu animal husbandry minister T.K.M. Chinnayya called on the Varadarajans and handed over a cheque for Rs.10 lakh that was announced by Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa for martyr Major Mukund’s family. Later, the minister also visited the crematorium and paid floral respects.

Kerala CM Oommen Chandy, who was in Chennai on a private visit, made a stopover at martyr Major Mukund’s father, Mr R. Varadarajan’s residence in Tambaram on Monday. While Mukund is a native of Tamil Nadu, his wife Indhu Rebecca Varghese hails from Kerala.

Talking to reporters after a 15-minute private conversation with Mukund’s parents Varadarajan and Geetha, besides Mukund’s wife Indhu, Mr Chandy said his government would provide all help to the family of the heroic officer. “I will discuss with higher officials in my government and decide on what help we can extend,” he added.

He further said his visit to Varadarajan’s home was only as a patriotic Indian. “It is not ordinary service. Mukund has sacrificed his life for the country,” he praised the Major. Noting that the Indian Army was a very powerful force, Mr Chandy said it was disappointing that a brave officer like Mukund got killed in the process of fighting militants.
