Election Commission okays 11 photo-ID cards for voting in Andhra Pradesh
Hyderabad: Voters who have not received Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) can use 11 other Photo ID documents to vote on April 30.
The alternative ID cards are passport, driving licence, service ID cards issued to employees by state /Central PSUs, public limited companies, passbook with photographs issued by banks or post office, PAN card, Aadhar card, smart card issued by RGI under NPR, MNREGA job card, health insurance smart card issued under ministry of labour scheme, and pension document with photograph.
For the coming elections, all poll arrangements like distribution of materials, EVMs and training of personnel have been completed. The handbook on elections has been given to all polling officials.
GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar said, “SMS facility has been provided to all voters of the GHMC area. To know their polling stations voters can send SMS to 9177999876. (KYP <space> EPIC NO), within seconds details will be received. E-Help desk is being arranged at 1,480 polling station building locations. Live web casting is being arranged in all the 3,386 polling stations. The Hyderabad police has deployed 9,625 police personnel, 1,113 home guards, 3,400 NSS volunteers and 1,566 of Central security men.
The election authorities are aiming for a polling percentage of 75 per cent this time.
