‘Always under pressure to deliver’

Allu Sirish on the struggle to make a mark in Tollywood and his prominent family

Hyderabad: After his debut movie Gouravam wasn’t received well at the BO, Allu Sirish is banking on Kotha Janta, which will hit the screens on May 1, to do well.

During a chat with DC, Sirish talks about the pressures that he is currently under. Sirish says, “With Kotha Janta, the biggest pressure is that the movie should do well and generate returns. It is being made under our home banner, and my father has invested in it.”

Talking more about coming from a family that has a strong foot-hold in the film industry, Sirish says, “Expectations are bound to be there. Chiranjeevi garu, Ram Charan and Allu Arjun have all made a mark and I am always under pressure to deliver performances worthy of my family background. This drives me to work hard.”

After the recent success of Allu Arjun’s Race Gurram, does Sirish feel the stress that his film has to be a hit too? He says, “Bunny has given eight hit films and these movies have been made on an average budget of '40 crore.

My film was made on a budget of Rs 7-8 crore. It’s not fair to compare our films, but it would be a fairy tale come true if my film succeeds like Race Gurram. Both of us will celebrate together.”

“Allu Arjun guides me without being overbearing. His idea is not to make me an Allu Arjun version 2, but he guides me on how I should create my own identity. We have been best friends and he has always been my guide,” he adds about his bonding with his brother.

About working under other banners, Sirish says, “As of now, I am comfortable working under our home banner. If I find someone whose skills come up to my expectations, then I would surely work with him.”

Allu Sirish acknowledges that he is lucky to be part of a family that has given him the opportunity to prove his mettle. “I worked as a co-producer for Ghajini and even went to an acting school. I have seen a number of people with their portfolios trying to get a break. My classmates from acting school haven’t even worked in a TV serial.

It is very hard to get a break in the industry. I am definitely lucky. But, at the same time, there is pressure here. I got the opportunity to prove myself and I should live up to it. It is destiny. If I wasn’t meant to be an actor, I would probably not have been born in this family,” says Sirish.

Offensive lyrics of Kotha Janta now changed

Recently we had mentioned that the lyrics of the song Breakulleni RTC in Kotha Janta might run into trouble as it portrayed the Transport Corporation in a bad light.

After the article was published, the producer and director immediately changed the lyrics and replaced “RTC” with “scooter”, i.e. Breakulleni scooter.

When contacted, producer Bunny Vasu says, “Yes, we changed it and the old one won’t appear in the film.”

According to a source, the makers don’t want to invite any trouble and decided to remove the offending words immediately.
