Elections 2014: MIM, TRS, TDP candidates carry criminal baggage
Hyderabad: TRS candidate from Thungathurthy Assembly constituency of Nalgonda, G Kishore Kumar, BJP’s Goshamahal Assembly candidate T Raja Singh and TD candidate of Medak’s Gajwel constituency V Pratap Reddy, top the list of nominees with the most number of criminal cases booked against them. Majlis floor leader and Chandrayangutta candidate Akbaruddin Owaisi secured fourth position in the list, revealed an analysis of affidavits filed by the candidates for the upcoming election.
While Kishore Kumar, who was an active leader of Osmania University JAC, has as many as 54 cases against him, the BJP leader Raja Singh has 19 criminal cases, including charges of hate speech, attempt to murder and defiling religious places, against him. TD’s Pratap Reddy has 15 serious criminal cases against him while Majlis leader Akbaruddin has 10 criminal cases including charges of hate speech.
Civil rights activists, who analysed the data, however, said that most of the cases against Kishore Kumar were booked at the time of the Telangana agitation in the Osmania University and different parts of the city. The main charges against him are attempt to murder and rioting.
On the other hand, three other politicians in the top list have serious criminal charges against them.
Raja Singh, who switched to the BJP from TD last year, has a total of 29 IPC Sections filed against him in the 19 cases. Most cases against him are for hate speeches and communal riots. A total of eight charges for hate speech, three for using explosives or fire to destroy houses, two for defiling places of religious worship and two for attempting to murder have been booked against him, the analysts revealed.
TD leader Pratap Reddy has five charges of criminal intimidation and three charges of assaulting victims with weapons. Akbaruddin has six charges of hate speeches and two charges of criminal intimidation.
