Thiruvananthapuram: With about 15 ADGP-level officers, the Home Department often finds it difficult to find suitable postings for all of them.
While there are about 15 ADGP level-officers, the number of officers in the rank of DIGs and IGs are only around five each.
Already ADGPs have been appointed in many posts of IGs. The South-Zone and North-Zone IG posts have been re-designated as that of ADGPs. Subsequently, four range DIG posts have to be upgraded to the IG rank.
ADGP-level officer and former ports director Jacob Thomas has been awaiting posting for more than a month. Another ADGP-level officer Loknath Behera, who is now serving in the NIA, is also returning after deputation in a month’s time. Some other ADGP-level officers who are serving in non-cadre posts within the State are eagerly awaiting postings in the law and order stream.
“Posting an ADGP is really a tiresome task owing to the problem of plenty. We may not be able to consider the preferences of all the officers," sources in the Home Department said.
Meanwhile, there is also a proposal to create two more DGP level posts – one cadre and one non-cadre, so that the number of DGP-level posts would increase to six from four.
The strength in ADGPs is due to the large number of IPS officers in the 1984-89 batches. In the case of officers in the IG and DIG levels, many are on Central deputation.
Also, the number of IPS officers from the 1999-2002 period was comparatively low.
