Decision on new CBI chief likely today
New Delhi: Resisting the vehement opposition of the BJP over the appointment of a new Special Director in the CBI, the Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC) Pradeep Kumar is scheduled to chair a meeting on Monday to consider the probable names, recommended by the UPA government, for the slot in the agency.
One name from a panel of IPS officers submitted by the MHA will be finalised and sent to the Appointments Committee of Cabinet.
According to sources, names submitted included that of DGP of Odhisa Prakash Mishra, DGP of Kerala K.S. Balasubramaniam, chief of Bureau of Police Research and Development Rajan Gupta. While Mr Mishra has a tenure till February 2016, the other two would be retiring by May 2015. Besides the CVC and vigilance commissioner, the meeting will be attended by home secretary Anil Goswami, department of personnel secretary S.K. Sarkar and CBI chief Ranjit Sinha.
