Vacation for migrants as netas pay their travel fare

Migrant labourers to return to their villages and cast votes for them
Mahbubnagar: A large number of migrants from Mahbubnagar district, who work in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and as well as Hyderabad and other Telangana districts, are returning en masse home to cast their votes.
All major political parties are paying the travel expenses to the migrant labourers to return to their villages and cast votes for them. The parties secured their data and persuaded them return them for the elections.
“The migrants, however, take cash from all the parties, but vote according to their wish”, said Bhima Reddy, an expert on the issue.
He said that in general, a couple living in Mumbai gets about Rs1,000 to return home, and one reason why the labourers prefer to come home and cast their vote is that they don’t want their names to get struck off the voters’ list. Most of them do not have their names in the voters’ list at their place of work.
The voting season also acts as a “paid vacation” for them. Apart from Ugaadi and Dasara, the migrant labourers return home during the elections and go back immediately after its completion, he added. Of the 28,94,981 voters in Mahbubnagar district, around 6-8 lakh are migrants. Of them, 4-5 lakh come to cast votes.
