Tamil Nadu BJP leaders head to Varanasi, Vadodara

Leaders from TN would be campaigning in Tamil dominated areas

Chennai: It is either Varanasi or Vadodara that is the next destination for most of the BJP leaders in Tamil Nadu. They would camp in these constituencies and campaign for the party’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi who is contesting from these two constituencies.

The leaders, who till April 24 had been invovled in poll activity, have decided to join scores of leaders from various parts of the country who are bent upon ensuring the victory of Modi in the elections. Would language barrier make them hamstrung in taking the campaign closer to the people? “Definitely not. There are many areas in Varanasi where Tamils live in larger numbers. I will be campaigning in Tamil dominated areas, mostly, to connect with the people,” says Coimbatore candidate and former state president C. P. Radhakrishnan who is also equally proficient in English and Hindi.

Like him, Sivagangai candidate and party’s national executive member H. Raja is a polyglot. He has decided to head towards Vadodara to hit the campaign trail.

Mr Radhakrishnan had left for Benaras, one of the oldest living cities in the world and holiest too. Also known as Kasi, Varanasi is the cultural capital of India.

“BJP is confident of winning 300 plus MPs and there are indications that Modi will become the Prime Minister,” he says. “Dalits and Muslims in Coimbatore had openly expressed their support to me in the April 24 election. They are also keen on Modi’s elevation to the country’s top job,” Mr. Radhakrishnan adds.

More leaders including Pon Radhakrishnan, L. Ganesan and Dr. Tamilisaisoundararajan are likely to join their colleagues soon. Even during the Assembly election in Gujarat, the BJP leaders from TN had campaigned for Modi.
