BJP's hidden agenda to provoke communal clashes: PM Manmohan Singh
Hyderabad: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Saturday that while the BJP said one thing, its hidden agenda was to provoke communal differences among the people of the country. He said that if BJP came to power, the country would be on the road to perdition.
Addressing a public meeting at Bhongir in Nalgonda district on Saturday, Dr Singh said that opposition parties like the BJP were making baseless allegations on the UPA, which had given clean government to the people.
The PM said, “UPA ruled the country with honesty and sincerity, and tried to eradicate corruption.” He said that the UPA government had proposed to bring about legislation to eradicate corruption, but could not enact them because of the BJP.
Unlike AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Dr Singh did not criticise the TRS except commenting that some smaller parties were trying to take credit for formation of the Telangana.
Hoping that the Congress would form the first government in Telangana, Dr Singh asked the people to keep in mind the national issues and prospects while voting. He said that the BJP depended only on Mr Narendra Modi, but the latter was making promises that were not implementable.
He said that development of the Telangana would be possible only if Congress came to power at the Centre and in the state and appealed to people to vote for the party in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
He also said that the Congress had delivered on its promises despite facing several roadblocks and Mrs Gandhi’s commitment to Telangana state became a reality after a 60-year struggle.
