Congress, TRS race to form stable government in Telangana

Congress deputed top leaders to counter TRS chief

Hyderabad: While political observers predict a hung Assembly in Telangana state, main contenders Congress and TRS aim to reach the magic figure to form the government. With only two days left for poll campaign in Telangana to get over, both Congress and TRS are making every effort to win over people.

From TRS, only party chief K.Chandrasekhar Rao is campaigning. After the Congress high command found that Telangana Congress leaders are no match for TRS chief to counter his powerful campaign, it has deputed AICC leaders. AICC president Sonia Gandhi will visit Telangana on Sunday for the second leg of campaign.

AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi has covered four districts in two visits. On Saturday Prime Minister Manmohan Singh addressed a public meeting at Bhongir in Nalgonda district. Apart from that AICC leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, Vyalar Ravi, Jairam Ramesh and Digvijay Singh are campaigning in Telangana.

In the multi-cornered contest in almost all Assembly segments, all the candidates will face stiff competition. All senior Telangana leaders have confined themsleves to their constituencies and not able to visit other constituencies whereas Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao has covered half of the segments in Telangana.

To form the government in Telangana, a party needs to win 60 seats out of total 119 seats. Both Congress and TRS leaders are not confident of getting a clear majority. But both parties are making claims that they will. Senior TRS leader T. Harish Rao claimed that his party will win 80 to 90 Assembly and 12 Lok Sabha seats. While senior Telangana Congress leader Komatireddy Venkata Reddy claimed that his party will win 100 Assembly and 13 Lok Sabha seats.
