I want to work with Deepika Padukone: John Trovolta
Tampa Bay: Hollywood star John Travolta's presence at the IIFA awards announced the merger of Hollywood and Hindi film industry.
The actor, who performed with Priyanka Chopra on "Tang Tang" track from 'Gunday', had apparently rehearsed for two days and also took some dancing lessons from Govinda!
Travolta was seated next to Govinda at the on-going IIFA awards and earlier in the day had announced that he’d be soon be shaking a leg with a Bollywood diva.
At a press conference on Saturday afternoon, Trovolta admitted that he was open to working in Hindi films. The actor also confirmed that he would be acting in Shekhar Kapur's 'Paani'.
"I've known Shekhar for a while now. I'm looking forward to working with him in Paani," he said.
The actor added, “Even though the script does not have it, Shekhar said he'll put a song, to make it truly Bollywood."
The 'Saturday Night Fever' recalls meeting Aamir Khan on his earlier trip to Mumbai.
"Anil kapoor and Aamir Khan are a few actors I've interacted with. I think Bollywood actors have an amazing script sense. I'm confident that they can help develop the connection between the two industries."
John admits that it is the songs, dance and the colour of Hindi films that sets it part from Hollywood. "I think Bollywood has no inhibitions and that reflects in their movies. It'll be great to watch the same essence in Hollywood films."
Asked about his knowledge on Bollywood, the veteran actor gushed about actresses Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone.
"I've watched Priyanka Chopra's Exotic. I thought she was brilliant," he said.
He added, "I want to work with the actress who worked in Ram Leela... errr... I think her name is Deepika Padukone."
Travolta is a self-proclaimed die-hard Bollywood fan and swears by '3 Idiots', 'Lagaan' and 'Krrish'.
"I find Hindi films very original and full of life, it captures your attention unlike any other film and it has a universal theme.
"I've always felt acting and song and dance should go in sync, I've always been more satisfied doing both and I feel the Bollywood influence should be more because musicals in Hollywood are sporadic. I wish people get more excited about musicals," he said.
The actor was all praises for Sanjay Leela Bansali's romantic hit 'Ram-Leela.'
"I recently saw the Romeo and Juliet one, Ram- Leela and that the first musical number was wow," he sadi, adding, "I love the girl in Ram-Leela, she is a amazing, she's great."
On his views about IIFA, Travolta said: "I think an award show like IIFA has a lot of credibility. In the West we have several award ceremonies, each claims to be bigger than the other.
"There are so many awards that the charm of the Oscars have diminished, no one can see the difference between the Golden Globes or the Oscars. I think in your country this is the big one and people approve that.
"I'm happy to be a part of the grand celebration this year and hope we continue to build good connections and keep making good movies," he concluded.
