IPL 7, Live Cricket Score, KXIP vs KKR: Kolkata make heavy weather of 133
Dubai: Facing Kings XI Punjab -- the only team with a 100 per cent winning record in IPL 7 -- Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and decided to have the ball first. They restricted Punjab to a modest 132.
Here is the live cricket score.
Kolkata lost Manish Pandey for 8 in the 4th over, 13/1. Jacques Kallis and Gautam Gambhir were in charge.
But Gambhir failed again, caught Ajay Patel bowled Sandeep for 1.
Jacques Kallis went soon -- caught Glenn Maxwell, bowled Laxmipathy Balaji for 9. KKR were 19/3 in 5 overs.
Chris Lynn, of that great catch in the last match, steadied the innings with Robin Uthappa, bringing up the 50 in the 10th over.
But Lynn departed for 13. Kolkata were 50/4 in the 11th over.
Yusuf Pathan departed for just 3, failing to lift his team again! Kolkata were 61/5 in the 13th over.
KXIP innings:
What a start it could have been if Mornie Morkel didn't bowl a huge no-ball to one that Cheteshwar Pujara holed out to Robin Uthappa! In the second over. But Pujara's luck ran out two balls later when he was run out by Manish Pandey.
One-down Wriddhiman Saha was soon leg-before to that old warhorse Jacques Kallis, bringing to the crease the very dreaded Glenn Maxwell. Punjab were 29/2 in 4 overs.
Maxwell powered 14 runs in the 6th over and even Virender Sehwag -- not in his best form -- came to the party. Punjab reached 50 in the 7th over.
Glenn Maxwell was OUT in the 8th over to Mornie Morkel -- clean bowled for 15. Kings were 59/3 in 8 overs.
David Miller didn't last long either -- out for 14 to a turner from Piyush Chawla, caught Morkel. Punjab were 74/4 in the 10th over in this IPL 7 match.
Captain George Bailey and Sehwag brought up the 100 in the 14th over. But Bailey was out in the same over for 11, caught Morkel bowled Chawla.
Virender Sehwag, who scored a stoic 37, was out in the same over, bowled Chawla. Punjab were 103 for 6 in 14 overs.
Things slowed down after that and Punjab couldn't get the big hits. They were 118/6 in 17 overs. R Dhawan and Ajay Patel were at the crease.
In the first ball of the 19th over, Patel was stumped Uthappa, bowled Narine for 7. Punjab were 126/7 in 18.1 overs. And Mitchell Johnson went the very next ball, bowled for a duck.
Sunil Narine had the best 19th over, picking up Balaji too leg-before for a duck.
Punjab finished a modest 132/9 in 20 overs.
The story so far:
While Bailey-led KXIP had enjoyed a smooth ride in IPL 7, KKR under Gambhir had their quota of tough moments in this season’s IPL as well. More importantly, KKR managed to win twice in three game including a thrilling win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 11th game of the seventh edition of IPL.
For KKR to win this game, they have to tackle the combo of Miller and Maxwell who, thus far has amassed 394 runs. They would also want their skipper Gautam Gambhir to strike form. For KXIP, their batsmen have done well so far. But their bowlers have been inconsistent.
