Government not quenching people’s thirst, says LDF

'Complaints were coming in from various parts of the state regarding the failure of authorities '

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The LDF has hauled up the government for not involving elected people’s representatives in drinking water distribution activities in places hit by acute water shortage.
LDF convener Vaikom Viswan alleged that the government was banking on officials through collectors for carrying out such activities instead of elected representatives who are well-versed with the problems at the grassroots level.

Several parts of the state were facing acute drinking water shortage because of rising mercury levels, he said and accused the government of failing to initiate adequate measures in consultation with the local bodies to provide relief to the people.

He said complaints were coming in from various parts of the state regarding the failure of authorities to provide potable drinking water in affected areas.
“The problem needs to be tackled with people’s help and the government needs to convene a meeting of local bodies’ representatives immediately to devise a comprehensive strategy for distribution of drinking water,’’ he said.
