Hyderabad: The Cyberabad Traffic department has written to the defence authorities regarding the unsystematic way of vehicle checking being carried out at the AOC.
Following a joint meeting with the Andhra Sub-Area defence head and resident welfare associations, the Army has agreed to conduct checking with least inconvenience. It has, however, cited security reasons and said that the checks can’t be stopped in the wake of the general polls.
B.T. Srinivasan, member of Malkajgiri RWA, who was part of the joint meeting on Friday, said that Col. Santosh Kumar, Commandant (Adm.), Andhra Sub-Area, had explained that the checks would continue till the end of the elections. However, instructions would be passed on to the checking team to help ease traffic and check only suspicious vehicles. There were traffic jams on Friday as well though not as severe as that witnessed on Thursday.
Meanwhile, candidates in the fray for Parliament and Assembly seats in Malkajgiri missed a chance to impress voters by not attending the meet to discuss the vehicle checks on AOC roads. In spite of the resident welfare associations sending out messages a day before to all the parties, none, except a BJP Assembly candidate, took advantage of the situation.
Cyberabad DCP (traffic) Avinash Mohanty said, “The Army should first arrange for a ‘holding area’ (off the road) where in five to six vehicles can be parked and then checked. Secondly, the Army should deploy officials of an appropriate rank (on par with traffic inspectors) who can take spot decisions. Moreover, only the suspicious vehicles should be checked. Not all of them. In a day or two, the traffic department will hold a meet with the defence authorities.”
Rs 8-cr seized, 2 held
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police seized Rs 8.325 crore cash that couldn't be accounted for in Shamshabad on Friday. On a tip-off, a bus coming from Bengaluru was intercepted and two people — Prashanth Jitender Suraya, 32, and Darshan, 22 were caught with bags containing Rs 8.18 crore. On further interrogation, Rs 14.5 lakh was seized from Prashanth’s flat. A case has been booked.
