Rupee down 6 paise against dollar in early trade
Rupee depreciated by 6 paise to 61.13 against the US dollar
Mumbai: Extending its losing streak for the fourth session, the rupee depreciated by 6 paise to 61.13 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market due to sustained demand for the American currency from importers.
Besides, dollar's gains against other currencies overseas and a lower opening in the domestic equity market also weigh on the domestic currency. The rupee had lost 31 paise to close at one-month low of 61.07 on Wednesday on sustained dollar demand from banks and importers. Forex and money markets were closed yesterday for Lok Sabha polls in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell by 35.58 points, 0.16 or per cent, to 22,840.96.
