Shazia Ilmi remarks were ironic, says AAP
New Delhi: A day after Aam Aadmi Party leader Shazia Ilmi landed into a controversy because of her alleged “Muslims ought to be communal this time” remark, the party got into a defensive mode.
A statement issued by the party tried to clarify that the tone in which the comments were made was an ‘ironic’ one. AAP said that it does not believe in the politics of communalism, but questioned the intentions of those who circulated the clip.
“Wish to clarify the statement attributed to me regarding exhorting the Muslims to be more communal.... And in an informal casual setting wherein a 90-second video clip purports to put context to a half hour conversation,” the party said.
The party however, questioned the intentions of those who circulated the video clip.
“The fact that those who have brought this 80 second clip in public domain have not shared the rest of the video which can show the actual context. It raises serious questions about the intentions behind the video clip”, the party said in a statement.
“If they have really done this in public interest, we request them to share the full unclipped video or the link to download it in public and also send it to us, so that the truth becomes clear between what is being attributed through the short clip,” the statement added.
