Brahmins see hope in Telugu Desam supremo
Tirupati: The ‘beleaguered Brahmin’ community which literally became nobody’s baby even as several political parties continued to shower sops on every other community, sees a glimmer of hope in the assurances of the TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu which he made during his recent visit to the district.
In the backdrop of the Brahmin-Vysya-Kshatriya Federation (BVKF), a federation that works for the cause of Brahmin, Arya Vysya and Kshatriya communities which account for close to 70,000 votes, sending a clear cut message across to political parties to take note of the communities and accord them their due recognition, the TD chief was the first to react.
Ahead of his two-day visit to the district, Mr Naidu had sent out a message to the communities to accord them their due share, which prompted the leaders of the three communities to join the TD in the presence of the party chief.
And as an effort to woo the communities, Mr Naidu had promised to nominate the representatives of the Brahmin community of the district to the trust board of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, Srikalahasti Devasthanams and the Kanipakkam Devasthanams apart from assuring one MLC ticket, once the TD comes to power.
Though no such assurances were conceded to the two other communities of the federation, Mr Naidu is said to have told them their pleas would be addressed once the party comes to power.
Meanwhile, with no other party other than the TD coming forward with such sops for the 'Brahmin' community, the community is strongly inclining towards the Telugu Desam.
The leaders of the community say since the TD has assured to recognise the Brahmin community, now it is the duty of the community to support Mr Naidu.
