Illegal sale of organs rages online
Hyderabad: Despite it being illegal to sell organs in India, several online forums are openly active in the cyber space with the objective of finding kidney donors from the country.
Hundreds of people, who are in desperate need of money, post their details personal, health, blood group, contact numbers in these forums to trade their kidneys. While investigating the recent kidney racket case, the city police was stunned to find several such websites.
People looking to be donors say that they the money urgently for various reasons to clear debts, to start a career, or fulfill other basic necessities.
In one of the forums, Rohit (name changed) from Adilabad posted his contact number and wrote, “Hi, I am healthy 27 year old male. I wish to sell my kidney. I am ready to travel anywhere in the world. I expect at least '3 lakh for my organ. I have to clear my debts soon; otherwise I will have to end my life. Please help.”
Most of the agents replying to the posts ask victim to get a passport and be ready to travel to countries like Nepal, Burma, Malaysia and Sri Lanka, where the transplant surgeries take place.

Hyderabad city police commissioner Anurag Sharma said, “If somebody wants to donate an organ to a patient, who is not his or her kin, they have to register with an NGO and take permission from authority.”
