High Court fines man asking cops to trace wife

Tumkur resident told to pay Rs10,000 for wasting court’s time
Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday imposed a cost of Rs 10,000 on a petitioner, who had approached the court filing habeas corpus petition seeking directions to police authorities to trace his wife who has gone missing since October 2013.
While taking the petitioner, Seenappa, a resident of Tumkur district, to task, the court observed that he had stated in
his petition that he had filed a missing complaint with the concerned police station within a month of his wife going missing. He also mentions in the complaint that his wife had repeatedly abandoned him in the past, the court said.
“The police force is to maintain law and order and not to trace a missing person who repeatedly goes missing,” the court said, while imposing the cost on Mr Seenappa for misusing the court’s time. The petition stated that Mr Seenappa’s wife went missing from their residence in Hebbur hobli in Tumkur district, on October 16, 2013. However Mr Seenappa filed the missing complaint only on November 19, 2013 and sought directions from HC.
