‘Anaamika’ drama
Hyderabad: There has been a lot of hype surrounding Nayantara’s upcoming movie Anaamika and it was thus a surprise when the leading lady gave the film’s audio promotional event on Tuesday a miss.
Rumours of alleged differences between the actress and director Sekhar Kammula quickly spread and a source said, “Director Sekhar Kammula wanted some dates from Nayantara to shoot the promotional song, but the actress couldn’t give any. Later, the director went ahead and shot the promotional song of the movie, Kshanam Kshanam, with popular singer Sunitha. The video has given more screen space to the singer than the lead actress. Apparently, this irked Nayantara.”
At the audio event, Kammula said, “I am angry with Nayantara as she did not come for this function.” Later when DC spoke to the director, he refused to directly blame Nayantara for skipping the event. “I think it’s her philosophy and she stands by it. It’s not only this movie that she has not promoted. She has been doing that for a while.”
When asked if Nayantara was angry about Sunitha getting more screen space in the video, he says, “No, there is nothing like that. In fact, it is a lot like what happens in Hollywood movies. For example in Titanic, singer Celine Dion features prominently in the theme song. Similarly here. I absolutely had no issues with Nayantara.”
At the audio launch, talking about the film, he had said, “There are reports that I liked the film Kahaani and approached the producers to do a Telugu version. But it’s not true. The producers approached me with the story. Initially I was puzzled whether to do the film, but after the Delhi rape incident I wanted to do something woman centric, so I decided to do this film,” he says.
