I am not in the race: Charmme
Hyderabad: Charmme is not acting opposite any big actor these days. Her movies are a different kind altogether. However, she has featured in songs that have turned out to be big hits.
When asked about why she was not acting opposite top actors, she says, “I am not in that race and I don’t want to be in that race. I have a separate stadium where I am running all by myself. I have a separate audience. People come to me and tell me that the story suits me perfectly and that if I do not accept they would not make the film at all. That is the kind of work I want to do. Producer and directors who approach me have confidence in me.”
Talking about commercial movies she says, “They have a list of heroines. If one heroine is not available or unwilling for some reason they just move on to the next name in the list. There is a lot of insecurity there as it is a race with stiff competition. I am not in that race. I have chalked my own path,” she says.
“I have the power to choose and reject movies. I don’t have the fear that if I don’t agree to do a film, someone else will take my place. If I don’t want to work I will go for a holiday. My work will be there when I come back,” adds Charmme.
Asked about doing the same genre of films and whether it has made an impact on her career, she explains “This decision is taken by me. I am doing only those movies that I want to do. I want to satisfy myself, I feel blessed.”
She added that she recently rejected a Hindi film. “I didn’t think my character was strong. So I decided not to do it,” says Charmme.
Talking about remuneration and the talk that she charges a bomb, she laughs and says “It’s not true. I didn’t charge any huge amount. I did the Sakku Bhai song for Nagarjuna. For Nayak with Charan, Chota K. Naidu called me and told me that there is a beautiful song that I should listen to. I was supposed to go for a holiday, but I cancelled it and did the song. In my career all my hits were by chance. I have however not been so lucky when it comes to money,”
Commenting on the songs she has done, she says, “People dance to those songs. Those are very big hits. There are many special songs I rejected. I don’t want to do just an item song,” she says. “The song should be really special in the film and I also look at other matters, particularly the music director and then the actor and director,” she adds. At present the actress is busy with yet another female centric film, Mantra 2.
