‘I am on bed rest now’: Dharmendra

'I’m on a heavy dose of medicines. My daughters, Ahana and Esha, are there with Hema to extend their support'
Mumbai: Veteran actor Dharmendra is currently on an explanation spree, describing how, due to certain “health problems”, he has been unable to join his “beloved” Hema Malini in her election campaign.
In an exclusive chat with this correspondent, the actor said that he was “very sad” about not being there for Hema.
“I have been advised complete bed rest by the doctor. I was shooting for a Punjabi film called Double Trouble. During the shoot, I hurt my right ankle but then I continued filming up until it was just impossible for me to walk,” he said.
The veteran even claims he was in the United States for treatment. “Yes... I was in America and I’m now on a heavy dose of medicines. My daughters, Ahana and Esha, are already there with Hema to extend their support but I’ve had to stay out.”
He, however, had a message for the residents of Mathura, where Hema is currently campaigning.
“My heart is with the people of Mathura and I have been closely monitoring news from there. I extend full support to all the people and Hema and I am sure Mathura will indeed vote for her.”
But Dharmendra is also trying to quell some “nasty rumours” (from a certain community) that are threatening Hema’s political prospects.
“There was talk that I was deliberately staying away from helping Hema in her campaign. But I would like to tell you that, I too have the same blood running as in your veins. I have completed 52 years in this industry and have always spread love to one and all. Hema’s win will be your win-win situation and I will definitely come and meet you all once I am fit and healthy. Pray for my speedy recovery. This is a promise from a kisaan (farmer) of this land,” he said.
He was also vocal in his support for BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. “He is a patriot. For the sake of a better country, I think the votes must go to him.”
