THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/ KOLLAM: The father of a 24-year-old girl shot at her with an air gun following an alleged family dispute at Meeyyannur in Kollam district on Saturday.The girl, Rony Cheriyan, who sustained serious injuries, was admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.
According MCH staff, the pellet was lodged near her liver and it needs to be removed surgically. Rony's father Roy Cheriyan, 60, fled from the spot in a van after the incident which took place at 10 a.m., the police said. The accused is a Canadian returnee and had been separated from his wife Ancy for the past 15 years.
“Rony met Ancy despite his strong objection. In a fit of rage, he fired at his daughter with the air gun,’’ police said.
She was given first aid at the Azeezia Medical College Hospital and then shifted to the MCH. Roy, who originally belongs to Chalakkudy, had moved into a rented house at Meeyyannur in Kollam district about six months ago.
Rony is a nursing tutor in a private medical college in Kollam. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the culprit.
