Hyderabad: In yet another case of sham marriage, a 61-year-old Omani national married two minor girls from Old City in Hyderabad within one week. The man, Madasari Rashed Masaaod Rashid, a landlord from Ibri city of Oman, ‘bought’ the two girls for Rs 1.4 lakh.
Rashed was nabbed by the cops after the first girl escaped from his flat in and approached the police. On her complaint, cops raided the flat and found Rashed with the second girl. While the first girl is 14-year-old, the second girl is 15-year-old, South Zone DCP Sarvashresth Thripati said. South Zone police arrested Rashed and 11 others, including parents of the victims, after booking relevant cases against them.
While police has slapped charges of rape, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act and Prohibition of Child Marriages Act on Rashed, victims’ parents have been booked under relevant sections of Prohibition of Child Marriages act, South Zone police officials said.
The list of arrested people includes two fake “Quaziz”, three women brokers and middlemen. However, the kingpin, named Habeeb, is still absconding.
Rashed, who came to Hyderabad in the first week of April for medical tourism, got in touch with Habeeb through an auto driver and agreed to pay to marry a minor girl.
“The first marriage was performed at Quazi’s house on April 9, after which Rashed took the victim to his flat. However, the girl escaped from his clutches. Later he again contacted the middlemen and sought another girl. He married the second girl on April 15, took the girl to his flat and raped her,” said the DCP.
