The IPL ‘aunty’
'Earlier I was called, ‘didi’ and after marriage, I’m the new aunty around'
Mumbai: What it is to be married? Ask model and anchor Shonali Nagrani (who recently tied the knot with beau Shiraz) how life has changed after marriage, and she laughs and says, “Well, all the kids in my building now call me ‘aunty’. Earlier I was called, ‘didi’ and after marriage, I’m the new aunty around, which is heartbreaking! Otherwise, the first year of my married life has been like a dream.”
Currently, Shonali is busy anchoring the IPL in the UK and she’s all excited. She says, “No other job has tickled my excitement as much as hosting the IPL has. I’ve had the opportunity to host the first IPL in 2008, T20 World Cup 2009 and 2010 and since 2011. I’ve been hosting the IPL for ITV in England. My best experiences in life have come from hosting cricket all over the world. This would be my fourth IPL in the UK, my fifth IPL in total and my ninth tournament as a cricket host.”
Shonali adds that she has always been a cricket fan. She reveals, “I genuinely love cricket. Listening to everybody at home give their own cricket commentary formed my cricket foundation. Hosting cricket in the UK gave me a lot of time to watch and get inspired by their professionalism. And that’s inspired me to write and produce my own show, which will soon find its way to a particular channel.”
However, when asked about her favourite role among modelling, anchoring and acting, Shonali picks acting. “I love acting, be it films or TV. I need to identify with the role in order to do justice to it,” says Shonali.
