Kochadaiyaan; Superstar & Co.

Rajinikanth and family throw a very public, yet discreet, press conference

Hyderabad: Soundarya R. Ashwin, the younger daughter of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, threw a massive press conference at Prasad’s on Saturday night to showcase her new project, Kochadaiyaan or Vikramsimha, in Telugu.

Present at the event, were big names from Tollywood, who heaped praises on the young director and yes, her legendary father. The 3D trailer launch of the film was followed by a 10-minute video, giving insights into to the making of the movie and a video of Rajinikanth doing the Tandav.
But perhaps the most excited member of the audience was director S.S. Rajamouli who kept up the praise for Soundarya.
“Taking up this project is a big challenge in itself, and completing it is the next. Performance capture is very difficult… right from the start through to the end product, every step has its own difficulties.”
“What I had done for Eega is hardly two percent of what she has done for Kochadaiyaan. The world has never seen a movie based on photorealistic motion capture finish in two years. She had to keep in mind every little detail. We should feel proud of Soundarya who has got this technology to Hyderabad,” said Rajamouli.
But between all this praise, came a little nugget from veteran actor Mohan Babu. “What can I say about my friend? I can write a book on him. We have been friends for 40 years. One of his daughters should have been my daughter-in-law, but that could never happen,” the actor said, even inviting Rajinikanth’s extremely media shy wife, Latha, on stage.

Other guests at the event, T. Subbarami Reddy, D. Ramanaidu and Dasari Narayana Rao congratulated Soundarya for taking up this project.
“I have seen fathers directing sons, but nowhere have I seen a daughter directing her father. I am witnessing this after cinema has completed 100 years. It is an absolute proud moment,” said Dasari Narayana Rao.
And finally, when the superstar took stage, the cinema exploded into cheers and whistles.
Rajinikanth said: “Doctors had advised me not to act in a film for at least two years. But during that time, Soundarya was narrating story of Kochadaiyaan and explained this technology to me. I assumed the movie will take at least 10 years, and would need a massive budget. You must know that I’m just an actor. Kamal Haasan is the expert on technicalities because, yes, he always wanted to direct. I don’t understand technology at all. Now, however, I am very happy that this movie has been completed in two years and my daughter is introducing a new technology to our industry.”
