Woman dies as driver loses control of bus
Driver claims failure of brakes caused the accident
BENGALURU: A BMTC bus fatally mowed down a woman, who was waiting at a bus stop, and injured two others in Sadduguntepalaya near Byapanahalli in Indiranagar police limits on Friday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Yesa (34), a resident of New Byapanahalli, and working at the house keeping department of a reputed multinational IT company in Bagmane Tech Park.
Yesa, along with two other persons Muniraju (34) and Lavanya (20) were waiting for a bus at Sadduguntepalya bus stop. Around 7.40 am, a K R Puram bound bus lost control and rammed into them.
Yesa fell on the road due to the collision and sustained severe head injury and died instantly, Lavanya too sustained head injuries, while Muniraju sustained injuries on his left arm.
Police said the BMTC bus driver, Kumar (36), was arrested and the vehicle has been seized. In his statement to the police, Kumar stated that the mishap occurred due to brake failure and he lost control over the vehicle. “As the bus driver claims the brakes had failed, we are waiting for official reports from the RTO to determine the exact cause of the accident,” police added.
Meanwhile, the locals rushed to help the victims, nabbed the driver and alerted the police. While Muniraju and Lavanya were taken to ESI hospital and provided medical treatment, Yesa was rushed to CMH hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem to Bowring Hospital, after which it was handed over to the family members. Indiranagar police have registered a case.
Compensation: BMTC Managing Director Anjum Parvez told Deccan Chronicle that the family will be immediately provided around Rs 1 lakh and later, depending on the court’s verdict, further compensation will be handed over to them. “Since the accident occurred due to a mistake from BMTC’s side, we will extend our fullest support to deceased’s family members,” he said.
