Union minister’s convoy attacked

Ministers car was stopped and windscreen and bonnets were damaged
Visakhapatnam: The car of Union minister and Araku Lok Sabha constituency Congress nominee V. Kishore Chandra Deo was attacked in Araku Valley on Thursday.
According to the police, Mr Deo and few others were travelling in his car from Araku Valley to Paderu to file his nominations papers for Araku Lok Sabha seat when a group of people, allegedly supporters of disgruntled Congress aspirant from Araku Valley Assembly segment Setti Gangadhara Swami, stopped the vehicle and attacked the car with sticks damaging the windscreen and bonnet of the vehicle.
At the same time some activists of YSR Congress Party passing by in a rally to support YSRC’s Araku Assembly candidate Kidari Sarveswara Rao also joined in the attack.
Police resorted to a mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd. Some of the injured YSRC activists in return pelted stones at the cops. Police said the windscreen of the minister car was smashed but the minister escaped unhurt and proceeded to Paderu, where he filed his nomination.
A case has been registered and an investigation is on.
Reacting to the attack, Deo told newsmen at Paderu in the district. “It was an attack on democracy and not against me. The YSRC activists in the presence of Kidari Sarveswara Rao tried to kill me.”
The minister also said that YSRC activists and leaders behave like notorious rowdies, if they come to power they will destroy democracy. When contacted Araku Valley inspector Y. Murali said they have registered a case and are investigating. No arrests have been made.
