BJP hopes for patch up with Telugu Desam

TDP chief announced on Thursday about the break up of ties with BJP
Visakhapatnam/Hyderabad: The BJP is still hopeful of patching things up with the Telugu Desam. Mr Prakash Javadekar, BJP’s national spokesperson who is in-charge of AP affairs, was in the state capital on Thursday and said, “We will review the situation. We will discuss with TD leaders and I expect clarity only tomorrow.”
News agencies later quoted him as saying, Small misgivings are common between political parties. Our alliance will not only continue but also win the elections handsomely. All issues between us will be sorted out by the top leadership.”
Mr Naidu, who will be reaching the capital later on Thursday night, is expected to meet senior party leaders and review the candidates for both the LS and Assembly segments that had been offered to the BJP.
“It is a surprise for us. In fact, we are supposed to hold talks with BJP leader Mr Javadekar and review some adjustments in Assembly segments. Anyway, we will talk to the leader before proceeding for consultations with the BJP leadership,” said a Telugu Desam MP who is involved in the alliance talks.
TD leaders insist that the BJP by fielding weak candidates in the 14 Assembly segments offered to it was damaging the prospects of the TD Lok Sabha candidates in an equal number of seats. Under the poll pact between the two parties, the TD gave four LS seats in Seemandhra to the BJP, Vizag, Rajampet, Narsapur and Tirupati and 14 Assembly seats.
Srikakulam TD Lok Sabha candidate K. Rammohan Naidu conveyed to Mr Naidu that the BJP candidate for Ichchapuram Assembly seat, Mr V. Balakrishna, had no chance of winning and it will affect his prospects in the LS polls.
TD leader Gorantla Buchhaiah Chowdary and Rajahmundry TD candidate Murali Mohan also complained to Mr Naidu that the BJP Rajahmundry Urban candidate A. Satyanarayana was weak. They said that due to this the LS seat would be gifted to the YSRC.
Even as developments were unfolding, TD leaders rushed to file nominations in seven Assembly and one LS constituencies that were offered to the BJP.
TD candidates who filed the nominations are: Sairaj (Ichhapuram), Gorantla Buchhaiah Chowdary (Rajahmandry Urban), Vijaya Kumar (Santanutalapadu), Dammalapati Ramesh (Madanapalli), Jaya Mangala Venkata Ramana (Kaikalur) and Kottu Satyanarayana (Tadepalligudem).
In yet another awkward situation, industrialist Raghurama Krishnam Raju who was in the BJP and was a denied ticket to contest from the Narsapuram Lok Sabha constituency, filed his papers on behalf of both the TD and the BJP.
