Tamil Nadu's growth neglected : Narendra Modi
Krishnagiri: If the Congress government were to continue further in power, we should keep coal in bank lockers, Modi said while addressing an election meeting in Krishnagiri, on Wednesday evening.
Modi introduced NDA candidates Anbumani of Dharmapuri, G. K. Mani of Krishnagiri, R. Velu of Arakonnam, A. K. Murthi of Arani and A. C. Shanmugam of Vellore.
More than two lakh people, mostly supporters of the NDA alliance, came to see Modi who arrived by helicopter from Hosur.
Modi said lack of power generation leading to power shortages in the nation was because units faced shortage of coal required to generate power, which according to him was because the UPA had eaten the mineral.
The UPA also failed to give jobs for youths as promised by them in the 2009 elections, he said. They had said that if they were elected, 10 crore jobs would be generated, but the UPA not even created 1.5 crore jobs for the people; whereas, the NDA, in its previous rule, had employed 6 crore youths. Other issues such as drinking water have also not been addressed by them, even though the Congress combine ruled for double term.
Referring to Gujarat, Modi said that 9,000 villages receive water from Narmada after his government was formed. He also said the state receives power without cuts.
With regard to Tamil Nadu, Modi said that both the DMK and the AIADMK found no time for the welfare of people because they were busy taking revenge on each other. In the bargain, growth in the state was neglected, he said.
Modi asked voters to support NDA candidates to give shock treatment to the UPA and to ensure overall growth of the nation through NDA.
