No war at all with Congress, says Maneka Gandhi

Maneka Gandhi said that her son was fighting his elections just like Congress was fighting theirs

New Delhi: In the midst of war of words between Priyanka Gandhi and Varun, Maneka Gandhi on Wednesday said there was no war and her son was fighting his elections just like Congress was fighting theirs.

A day after Priyanka attacked her cousin Varun, saying the Lok Sabha polls was “an ideological war and not a family tea party”, Maneka said, “There is an election. He wanted to fight the election from something that belonged to his father. So he is going to contest and I appreciate that. I appreciate the fact that he has taken a difficult area.”

The BJP leader said she has no idea what triggered the war of words. “We are not reclaiming any legacy. But it does not sum that. I am very proud of my husband and my son. So if my son does go to his father's constituency, I am quite happy with that,” she said.

However, BJP reacted sharply to Priyanks’s attack Varun and the party. BJP leader Sudhanshu Trivedi said, the ideology of the Congress was keeping people poor, “protecting corrupt and abusing institutions which question it”.

“They question everybody. Now they have found fault with their own family. Instead of blaming one and all, they should look within,” he said.
