Congress president Sonia Gandhi takes credit for Telengana

Congress President says TRS of no help, all others opposed Telangana
Karimnagar: Taking credit for the formation of Telangana, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said on Wednesday that neither the TRS nor the Telugu Desam had a role in the creation of the separate state.
Addressing a packed gathering at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Wednesday, Mrs Gandhi said that the people of the region had to wait for 60 years for realising their aspiration.
Speaking at the venue where she had raised the issue 10 years ago, Mrs Gandhi said that she had assured the formation of Telangana state in 2004 and had strived for it.
“It was the Congress which decided to create Telangana and drafted the Bill. Our party introduced and passed the Bill in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. But the BJP opposed it in the Lok Sabha till the end. The TD too tried its best to oppose the Bill. The YSRC left no stone unturned to stall the Bill,” she said, adding that the TRS had no role in draf-ting and passing the Bill.
