Every day there are at least 10 to 12 road shows, rallies and public meetings in the city
Hyderabad: Politicians might be having a hard time campaigning under the blazing sun, but road shows and rallies in peak traffic hours are leaving the public huffing and puffing.
Permissions are not sought from the Traffic police by political parties unless there is huge public participation and mammoth delays in live traffic updates system is also not helping as there are no prior warnings on routes to avoid for the general commuters.
On an average, there are about 10 to 12 road shows, rallies and public meetings daily in the city. Most of these are held in the Cyberabad jurisdiction, but culminate in Hyderabad.
G. Sudheer Babu, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Hyderabad, said, “They have to get permission from us if the rally is big or if it passes through important places.”
Avinash Mohanty, deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Cyberabad, said, “Law and order police gives permissions and we are informed about the timings and routes of rallies. There are traffic snarls due to election campaigning but we have to endure it.” Traffic police officials also say most politicians don’t stick to their timings.
