Telengana Pradesh Congress Candidate gives time to rebels
Hyderabad: Telangana PCC will take a final decision on expelling rebels from the party on April 17. As many as 17 rebels are in the fray, including in the Janagama Assembly segment in Warangal district where Telangana PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah is contesting.
In Janagama Assembly constituency, Bakka Jadson is in the fray as a Congress rebel candidate. The Telangana PCC chief and Telangana PCC Disciplinary committee chairman M. Kodanda Reddy on Tuesday discussed the fate of the rebel candidates. They have identified at least 15 rebel Congress candidates.
Mr Lakshmaiah and other senior leaders are making last ditch efforts to force the rebel candidates withdraw from the fray in favour of the Congress candidates.
According to sources, the rebel candidates from Kottagudem, Bellampalli and Ibrahimpatnam assured the party leadership to withdraw from the contest in favour of the official candidates.
Senior leader and MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy’s daughter Palvai Sravanthi is contesting as a rebel candidate from Munugode Assembly constituency allotted to CPI in seat adjustments.
Union minister Jairam Ramesh recently met Mr Govardhan Reddy and asked him to ensure that his daughter withdraws from the contest.
In Maheswaram Assembly constituency, allotted to CPI Telangana PCC president, the ticket was given to former Congress MLA Malreddy Ranga Reddy to file nomination. CPI candidate Aziz Pasha has also filed nomination from Maheswaram Assembly segment.
Mr Lakshmaiah asked Mr Ranga Reddy to withdraw his candidature, but the latter rejected the request. In the Telangana PCC disciplinary meeting to be held on April 17, a decision will be taken on whether to allow Mr Ranga Reddy to continue as party candidate.
