Sonia Gandhi's rally at the same venue where she pledged Telangana
Hyderabad: Congress president Sonia Gandhi will address a mammoth Congress election meeting on Thursday in Karimnagar, at the same venue where she had committed to the formation of a Telangana state in 2009.
“Strategically, we have organised the party’s first election meeting in Karimnagar at the same place (Ambedkar Stadium) where Sonia had earlier made a commitment on Telangana; now it is going to be a fulfillment of her commitment at the same grounds,” said TPCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah.
Incidentally, this is the AICC president’s first visit to the state after October 2009, apart from when she and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had taken an aerial tour of the areas affected in Mahbubnagar and Kurnool districts by flood in Krishna river.
The Telangana Congress leadership has sent a few pointers for the party high command’s consideration on the issue of Telangana and the TRS backtracking on its promise of merging with the Congress. The local leaders want Ms Gandhi to emphasise on the
Telangana sentiment and about the party keeping its promise of granting Telangana statehood, which according to them, will electrify the masses of the region.
At the same time they want her to criticise the role of Telangana Rashtra Samithi particularly, the party chief, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, for betraying the interests of Telangana by announcing support to the Third Front, which had no contribution towards the formation of Telangana.
Security tight for sonia’s 5th visit to Karimnagar
