Narendra Modi scares us, say Shias, back Rajnath Singh
Lucknow: After a late Monday night meeting with Muslim clerics that left several faces in the BJP red, party chief Rajnath Singh finally managed to win the support of a key section of Muslims.
Maulana Kalbe Jawwad, a leading Shia cleric, virtually declared his support for Mr Singh, telling reporters, “We are scared of Narendra Modi, but Rajnath Singh has the acceptability of Atal Behari Vajpayee.”
Mr Singh on Tuesday also met other prominent religious leaders, including Maulana Kalbe Sadiq and Maulana Khalid Rashid Firangi Mahali, who had earlier urged Muslims to vote for “secular” candidates.
Maulana Kalbe Jawwad said that while no “political fatwa” will be given to Muslim voters, he would place his views before the community.
